Davinci Resolve voiceover clips being placed in power bin(media offline) issue

March 29, 2024

When recording voiceover in resolve, the captured clips are stored in the currently opened bin, which can very easily not be the correct one. If you happened to have a power bin open and recorded a voiceover clip, the captured clip would go into the power bin.

The problem with this is, the next time you open the project, davinci resolve won't be able to locate any voiceover clips that were stored in the power bin for whatever reason, and as a result, the clips will have all become red.

I used to think they were lost forever and wasted hours to re-recor

d the voiceover...until recently.

As I understood more how resolve works, I realized:

  1. There is an actual location on your computer that davinci resolve actually keeps the voice over clips on your storage, which unless you manually change it, is the same across the entire timeline.
  2. This means that if you acidentally recorded your voice over in a power bin, you can always find the clips in the actual folder on your computer, and re-import it into the appropriate bin in resolve.
  3. The folder location can be seen by going into the project settings -> Caputre and Playback -> Save clips to

Once I understood this, I was able to re-import the clips into the proper bin, and everything worked perfectly now.
